Alfred Binet
Alfred Binet can be called the father of the modern intelligence-testing movement. Binet, along with others, was hired by the French government to provide an unbiased solution to the problem of finding out which children had special needs in academics. Binet and partner Theodore Simon thought the answer could be found in an objective test. They also though that all children have the same intelligence development, but some were faster than others in this process. They found the mental age of children, or the chronological age of a given level of performance. They created a mental aptitude test, which succeeded in finding items that predicted how well the children handled schoolwork. He hoped his test would be helpful to improving education, but feared the repercussions of it being used to label individuals.
